Whirlwinds took to the court today in a repeat of last year’s season opener vs Mortimer. Having lost that one 72-20 (!), we were determined to do better. Whirlwinds, who’d never all been on a court together until today, played really well against an experienced Mortimer side and there are loads of positives to take from this match. Kate Harvey and Lauren Joslyn are a great pairing in the shooting circle and Lara Webb, Debbie Horn and Lisa Castle kept on feeding in brilliant balls that, amazingly, got past the super tall Mortimer defence. At the other end, Daisy Rodgers, Charlotte Morris and myself worked hard with against a strong Mortimer attack and really held up their play, bagging quite a few turnovers and held ball calls. Charlotte totally earned PoM with some amazing tips and interceptions and, whilst we’ve got some things to work on at training, everyone was really supportive of each other and the team spirit is there already. Final score was 38-27 to Mortimer.
